How to apply your fabric decals

A few simple steps for a little everyday wonder.

  1. Clean your surface

    Use 70% isopropyl alcohol + 30% water and a lint-free towel. Repeat 3 times and allow to dry completely.

  2. Peel

    Remove the backing and get ready to stick. For larger decals, start by peeling back 15–20cm of the backing sheet.

  3. Stick

    Apply to your chosen surface and smooth from the middle to the edges with your hand. Peel and reapply to release air bubbles.

  4. Move (if needed)

    Our fabric decals are removable and repositionable, so you can move them when you’re ready for a change.

Where can I stick them?

Our fabric decals work best on smooth, non-porous surfaces, including:

  • Painted walls
    (matte or low sheen)
  • Doors
  • Furniture
  • Fridges
    & most appliances

A few things to know

  • Avoid Wash & Wear / wipe-clean paints
  • Wait at least 2 months after painting
  • Use a primed, non-flaking surface
  • *Reusability may be reduced if adhesive gets dusty
  • Designed for indoor use

What makes Wondermade fabric decals different?

We use PhotoTex fabric with a specially formulated adhesive, so your favourite designs can move with you.

Fully cured adhesive

The adhesive is fully cured before it reaches you. It is designed to stay stable, rather than continuing to harden or build a stronger bond over time.

Clean removal

Made to peel away cleanly from suitable smooth, non-porous or properly primed surfaces, so you can reposition your decals without a sticky mess.

PVC-free fabric

PhotoTex fabric is PVC-free and described by its manufacturer as non-toxic. Its adhesive contains no glycol-ether or formaldehyde.

A little care makes a difference: always follow our surface preparation guidance. Paint condition matters, and dust or fibres on the adhesive can reduce reusability.

What type of walls can I use the decals on?

Choose a smooth, properly primed, non-flaking surface. Matte or low-sheen painted walls work best. Avoid textured surfaces, Teflon, Wash & Wear, washable and wipe-clean paints. If you’re unsure about your surface, contact us before applying.

Can I stick them to freshly painted walls?

Wait at least 2 months after painting. The wall must be properly primed and the paint must not be flaking. Clean the surface as described above and let it dry completely before applying.

How do I clean my decals?

Gently wipe the printed side of your fabric decal with a damp cloth to remove dust and marks. Keep the adhesive side clean and free of dust and fibres. Vinyl decals can be wiped with soap and water; do not use solvents.

Can I reuse my decals?

Yes, fabric decals can be removed and repositioned. Dirt, dust and fibres on the adhesive can reduce reusability and make them less effective. Keep the backing paper and tube for storage or moving home.

Will they damage my walls?

Our fabric decals are designed to remove without damage from suitable, properly primed walls. Paint must be sound and non-flaking. We can’t guarantee the bond between your existing paint and wall. Gently peel the decal back to remove it.

Do you have a guide for vinyl decals?

Yes. Vinyl decals have a different application process. Read the vinyl installation guide below, including the wet method for larger maps and fridge decals.

For vinyl decals

Vinyl installation guide

Follow the instructions supplied with your order. The wet method below is only needed for larger pieces, such as maps and fridge decals.

  1. Prepare. Clean the surface with a cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol and water, then dry with a lint-free paper towel before the solvent dries.
  2. Peel. Turn the graphic upside down and peel the backing off, rather than lifting the graphic.
  3. For larger pieces. Fill a spray bottle with water and a few drops of dish soap. Lightly mist the surface, using as little as needed.
  4. Apply and smooth. Position your vinyl and use a squeegee to remove liquid and air from the centre outward. Place baking paper between the squeegee and vinyl to prevent marks.

Care: Wipe with soap and water. Do not use solvents. For vinyl on plaster walls, move it every few months; vinyl decals have up to 1 year removability.
